She is trying to ignore this “thing” but whatever it is, it won’t let up. Katy has something bigger ahead of her and she has to change her mindset in order to see exactly what it is. Not a favorite, but will probably get some nice attention. It’s not disgustingly dirty, but if you listen to the words, it’s clear what she’s talking about. If you like the sexy, explicit, side of Katy, this tracks for you. This isn’t a bad thing, but I think “Miss You More” should’ve taken its place (single wise). In my opinion, this song is overplayed on the radio, so unfortunately, it did get old real quick. This song was fun to listen to before the album came out. This one will probably be my most played track. This track talks about how this guys mind made things feel “unfinished.” This song is one of my favorites because it showcases the soft, sweet, innocent, Katy that we’ve seen in the past. With a different beat and less auto tune, this song definitely has potential to be one of her biggest tracks. I’m not really feeling the small amounts of auto tune on this track, but the lyrics to this song are fantastic. Basically, this person was controlling and took everything from Katy but she’s confident, and she’s going to rise above it and get her power back. Okay, this song is definitely written about someone Katy has a not so great past with. This track will definitely have to grow on me. I’m really undecided on this track as of writing this article. Katy’s vocals throughout the song really are unique, with a sound we really haven’t heard in any of her previous projects. This song is extremely catchy and will definitely be a timeless bop. Social media and entertainment outlets actually speculated that this song was written about Taylor Swift - which after you interpret the lyrics, you’ll probably think the exact same thing. This track was one of the singles released ahead of the album. “Roulette: is that track that after a few listens, you’ll NOT be able to get it out of your head. She’s talking about how she wants to :lose control and forget with you,” meaning a significant other or a boy toy. Katy is definitely bothered by this person texting her and trying to start trouble. In a way, I feel like this song is her saying, “I’m Katy Perry, and you can’t break me.” As the song progressed, it sounds like she is trying to tell someone off. When this song first started, I thought this would be a song that would be played in the clubs. Definitely going to be a song that will be in a lot of social media captions. This track has a very upbeat vibe to it, yet it has a significant message behind it. So she keeps begging for a witness to help her get through. With the title track, Katy is talking about how we all want to be seen and we all want someone to take on the world with us. Katy played some of the albums tracks, as well as some of her other hits. Each track just has such a unique sound, and if you haven’t checked out the album, you’re truly missing out.Īlso, celebrating the release of the album, Perry actually held a little event with some of her biggest fans. We’ve been awaiting so long for the release of Katy Perry’s Witness, and I have pretty much every kind of emotion going through my mind, personally.Įach track is very different, but all flows to tell a story and a side to Perry that we haven’t really known anything about. Perry appeared to be trying to keep the show PG-rated for the younger audience but there were plenty of adult elements, not least her provocative lyrics and audacious costumes.Īs thrilling as the precisely executed choreography and her band's blistering musical virtuosity were, the night's most powerful moments came when Perry showed off her warm falsetto and stunningly agile vocal runs.Ī spine-tingling acoustic Wide Awake, the riveting anthem Power and the vulnerable Into Me You See showed Perry at her finest, but her boppier tracks, including diss track Swish Swish, the brazen Bon Appétit and a riveting Roar, went down a treat.By Nicholas Liddle 6 years ago Katy Perry has just released her new album, Witness, and it is quite the album. The colossal, Instagram-worthy props were both dazzling and distracting and included an appearance from the meme-tastic "left shark" from her Superbowl performance, and Cirque du Soleil-like acrobats. However, the pin-up doll days are behind this chameleon, who gave California Gurls and I Kissed a Girl an emphatic delivery reflective of her natural progression as an artist.
